The Institute for English As a Second Language and American Studies at The College of New Jersey provides non-native speakers of English (at least 18 years of age) with instruction in English for Academic Purposes and American Studies in an intensive one-month session from July 1, 2012 to August 5, 2012. Our institute runs learner-centered communicative courses whose primary goal is to help students enhance their proficiency in American English in academic contexts and improve their understanding of Americans and their culture.
Students pursuing bachelor’s or graduate degrees from American colleges and universities will enhance their linguistic and cultural preparation for American higher education by studying in small groups with qualified instructors and American undergraduate resident assistants. Students enrolled in this program live in private or double rooms in beautiful, air-conditioned dormitories right on the tree-lined suburban campus of The College of New Jersey, in Central New Jersey, located between Philadelphia and New York City. Our undergraduate resident assistants live with the learners to help extend the cultural immersion beyond the classroom. Students take their meals in our beautiful, air-conditioned dining hall and attend classes in state-of-the art instructional facilities. Our class sessions include one or two short lecture experiences every day, but the bulk of each day is spent in small class groups averaging 8 students per group.
