Why Choose TCNJ?

Many schools offer Intensive English Programs (IEPs) and study in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), but TCNJ’s program is different.  Here’s just 10 of the many reasons why:

1. Small language classes (no more than 8 students) allow the needs of each student to be met.
2. Our ESL courses will work on reading, writing, speaking, listening, and “student-ing” skills in an integrated curriculum.
3. Students pair that intensive language work with a traditional college-level content course specifically designed to serve their needs.
4. That American Studies course includes interdisciplianry content valuable for all majors.
5. Graduate students in our Summer Intensive will get special training to help them succeed as TAs in every discipline.
6. Students earn college credits (8 or 12, depending on program) that help them on the way to their degree–and are transferrable to other institutions.
7. Every student will complete the program with an individualized plan for further development of English skills, tailored to each learner and his or her goals.
8. Outside of the classroom, students will participate in experiential learning in a variety of contexts.
9. Students will have  a real “American” college experience on our safe, tree-lined campus, whether during the Summer Intensive or the Spring Term.
10. Because we provide language and culture immersion, students enhance their language skills quickly.
